CHARLES DURNAN

Charles Durnan 75, lifetime resident of Fairbank, died at the university hospital, Iowa City, May 14, following a lingering illness. He was born Dec. 11, 1876, on a farm north of Fairbank, the son of Stephen and Bridget Durnan.

He was married to Veronica Fettkether, Feb. 22, 1905, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic church at Fairbank, of which he was a member.
Surviving are his wife; two sons Joe, at home and Leo at Wadena; five daughters, Mrs. W. P. Theisen, Waterloo; Sister Mary Valeria, Elkader; Mrs. Laverne Schmadeke, Waterloo; Miss Dolorita Durnan, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Jack Cobb, Waterloo; two brothers, William of Blaine, Wash., and Ed of Sunnyside, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Smeltzer in Canada and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter, five sisters and four brothers.

The rosary was held at 7:30 Friday evening at the home. Funeral services were at 9:30 Saturday morning with burial in the church cemetery.
