Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa for Mary Ann Pfister, age 71, of Elgin, Iowa, who died Tuesday June 28, 2011 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa after a brief illness. Rev. Rick Johnson officiated. Interment was in the Apostolic Cemetery in rural Elgin, Iowa. Special soloist music was provided by her son-in-law, Mark Harberts with Sara Strong as his accompanist. Pallbearers were Paul Hofer, Rick Hofer, Wayne Hofer, Jim Hofer, Curtis Hofer, and LeRoy Hofer. Organist was Connie Ellis.

Mary Ann was born on August 7, 1939 in rural Elgin, Iowa, Fayette County to Ben and Loretta (Imhoff) Hofer. She attended country schools and the Elgin High School. Mary Ann was united in marriage to William Lester Pfister on June 24, 1955 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Mary Ann worked in food service at the Valley Community Schools for 31 years. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, camping, fishing and gardening. She especially enjoyed attending the activities of her children as they were growing up and attending the activities of her grandchildren.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in October of 2010; her son, Jeffrey Pfister, 3 brothers, Sam Hofer, Paul Hofer, John Hofer, and 2 sisters, Rose Hofer, and Helen Denzin.

She is survived by her four children: Bill (Pam) Pfister, Rose (Mark) Harberts, all of Elgin, Iowa, Jeff (Brenda) Pfister of Gunder, Iowa, and Brenda (Charlie) Pfister of McGregor, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Jill, Amy, Jeremiah, Jenny, Leah, Logan, and Chad; 4 great-grandchildren, Paige, Natalie, Alyssa, and Jacob; 2 brothers, Ben (Betty) Hofer of Central City, Iowa, Alfred (Iona) Hofer of State Center, Iowa, and 4 sisters-in-law, Audrey Hofer of Randalia, Iowa, Patience Hofer of Marion, Iowa, Betty Hofer of Wadena, Iowa and Shirley Pfister of West Union, Iowa.
