George E. Roesier was born in Bremer county, Iowa
January 1, 1863 and died in the Mercy Hospital at
Waverly on October 20, 1923 after an illness of ten
days. His age was 60 years, 6 months and 19 days.
He spent the greater part of his life in and around
Westgate. For a number of years he was employed as
a plumber in the hardware store at that place, later
following the same occupation at Grundy Center.
On October 10, 1905 he was married to Mrs. Lottie
McClain of Westgate, going at once to Grundy Center
intending to start a home at that place. But the
shadow of the "white plague" hung over their household
and on November 13, 1906 after only thirteen months
of wedded life, she passed to the Great Beyond.
After the death of his wife he made his home in the
Western part of the state. George made warm friends of
all who came to know his kind disposition and sterling
worth.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his step-son, Leland
McClain of Westgate and as near as is known, two sisters,
Mrs. Anna Lafferty and Mrs. Mary Howe and one brother
Fred all of Atkins, Minnesota; also other relatives and
a host of friends.
The funeral was conducted from the Murphy Church
Tuesday afternoon by Rev. W. W. Vine and interment was
made in Greenwood Cemetery.
