Edwin Thompson 1847-1893 Civil War Veteran

Died—at his home near Maynard,
October 13, 1893, Edwin Thompson,
aged 46 years, he was born in Columbus
county, New York, in 1847.
He enlisted in the First Wisconsin
Heavy Artillery in September, 1864,
and was honorably discharged in June
1865. He was a charter member of
Reynolds Post No. 47., G. A. R. The
funeral services were held at his home
on Sunday. October 15th. and were
largely attended, the procession extending
half a mile. Rev. Noel, of
Oelwein, preached a very appropriate
sermon from the text: "I have fought
the good fight.". An aged father and
mother, three sisters and two brothers
are left to mourn his loss. The
members of Reynolds Post attended
in a body. Members of of the Posts
from Oelwein and Randalia were also
present. The remains were interred
in the cemetery at this place.
