Lifelong Resident, Age 67 - Mother of Nationally Known Dentists

WAUCOMA - Mrs. H.H. Belding, 67, died at a hospital in Rochester at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. She had been at the hospital since Jan. 25. Funeral services were held this afternoon (Wednesday), at the home at 1:30 p.m. and at the Federated church at 2, in charge of the Rev. James P. Gable of West Branch, a former pastor in Waucoma. During the services, a granddaughter, Doralee Belding, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?" Mrs. Belding is survived by her husband, whom she married June 28, 1895, and two sons and one daughter. These are Dr. P.H. Belding, Waucoma, editor of a national dental magazine; Lieut. Leland Belding, U.S. navy, New York, N.Y.; Mrs. James Clarke, Estherville, Iowa. One son, Laverne A. Belding, died Oct. 21, 1918, from wounds received while in battle in the World war, and his body was sent home from France a few weeks before the Armistice was signed. Ten grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ashton House, Marionville, Mo.; and one brother, Charles Rockwood, Sapulpa, Okla., and many nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Belding's maiden name was Effie Rockwood. She was the daughter of James B. and Katherine (Bunny) Rockwood, and was born in Waucoma Dec. 12, 1872. She was educated in the public schools there and was graduated in the class of 1890 under Prof. Fred Farrington. She taught in the rural schools nearby and in the Waucoma schools until her marriage. Waucoma has been her residence all her life.
She was a charter member of the Legion Auxiliary, of the local chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Relatives coming from a distance were her son Lieut. Leland Belding from New York, and Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Belding, Caledonia, Minn. Mrs. Ashton House, a sister and Mrs. Arlene Belding Clarke already were here.
