Seth S. Richards second son of Edmound Sommers
Richards and Mary Ann Howell Richards was
born at Waukegan, Ill., March 26, 1860 and
died at Oelwein, Iowa January 15, 1925 at the
age of 65 years, 9 months and 19 days.
He moved with his parents to Bremer County,
Iowa at the age seven where they settled on a
farm in Fremont township, 3 miles north and 1
mile east of Readlyn. Here he attended public
school and grew to manhood. Here December 5,
1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A.
McCumber. They made their home in the
immediate neighborhood in which he spent his
boyhood, on a farm and continued to live there
until six years ago when they moved to Oelwein.
To this union were born two children, Claude
Albert and a daughter who died in infancy.
Two years ago last July his wife and life
companion preceded him in death. Since then he
has made his home with his son and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Claude A. Richards of 909 South Frederick
Street. Ten days before his death he suffered
a paralytic stroke that engaged his entire
right side. He seemed to be improving from
the first stroke he when he had a second from which he never regained
consciousness.
He leaves mourning his departure his son Claude
Albert and his wife and their five children;
three brothers, John Richards of Oelwein,
Orlando A. Richards of Moorland, Iowa and Lewis
Richards of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Burial services were conducted at the home of
his son Claude A. Richards, 909 South Frederick
Street and at Grace Methodist church, Sunday,
January 18th at 1:30 pm by Rev. A. W. Henke. He
was buried in Grove Hill cemetery, Franklin
township, Bremer county, by the side of his
wife and infant daughter .
