Katharine Burdish McHugh 1829 - 1909

MCHUGH, BURDISH, LINNEY, MANNING, MAHONEY, TEN EYCK

The death of Mrs. Katharine Burdish
McHugh occurred Monday, March
22nd at 4:30 a. m. at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. J. Linney in this city,
after a short illness, and the last
services took place from the home
at 7:30 a. m. in this city and from
the Catholic church in Falrbank at
10:30 a. m., and she was laid at rest
in the Fairbank cemetery by ths side
of her husband.
She was born in County Mayo.Ireland,
in December 1829, and she was
therefore in her nineth year at
the time of her demise. In 1849 she
was united in marriage to Edward
McHugh, and the young couple came
to this country immediately afterward,
locating in Ohio for a time,
then coming to Iowa which was
their home through life
To that union were born thirteen
children, six of whom with the husband
proceeded her to the better
land. Those who are left to mourn
the death of this pioneer woman of
this section of Iowa, a devoted wife
and mother are Henry McHugh, Mrs.
J. Linney and Mrs. Hiram Manning,
of Oelwein, Edward McHugh and
Mrs. Henry Mahoney, of Westgate,
William McHugh, of Waverly, and
Mrs. Will Ten Eyck, of Beloit, Wisconsin,
beside thirty-three grandchildren
and two great grand-children.
She was a woman who did her full
duty to her family and to the world.
She lived and died a devoted member
of the church, with full faith In
the Son of Man In whom she had so
long trusted. Eight grandsons were
the pall bearers—Fred and Herbert
Tallerton, Richard and Arthur Mc-
Hugh, Walter and Edward Kerns,
Edgar Douglas and Leonard
Ten Eyck. Sympathy is expressed to
he bereaved relatives.
