Martin Cannon 1866 - 1916

Martin Cannon was born December 3, 1866 in Oran
township, Fayette county, Iowa and died Sunday
morning, June 18, 1916 as a result of the injuries he
received Thursday previous in the tornado which
wrecked the barn that was being raised on the Henry
Mealey farm, where Wm. Kauten and Charles Mealey
lost their lives.

Martin Cannon grew to manhood in the Oran
community. He was a prosperous farmer residing on
his farm southeast of Oran til four years ago when he
moved to Oran. June 28, 1915 he was married to Miss
Mary Garvey. He was an earnest worker for the welfare
of the village and will be greatly missed by a host of
friends.

He leaves to mourn his untimely death his wife, two
brothers, Michael Temling of Oran, and Wm. of Fairbank
and two sisters Sarah and Katherine of Fairbank and a
host of relatives and friends.

He died fortified by the rites of the Catholic church
and the funeral services were held in the Immaculate
Conception church at Fairbank, Tuesday morning, Rev.
Chas. Miller, officiating and interment in the cemetery
at that place.
