Margaret McGuire was born
October 8, 1859 near Westgate and died
November 11, 1920 at her home in this city.
Her mother died when she was
nine days old and her father died a
few years later, leaving her an orphan.
She then made her home, with
her grandparents, till she grew to
womanhood. She made many sacrifices
for them in their declining
years until they passed away.
Sept. 24, 1889, she was united in
marriage to L. W. Obenchain. They
made their home on a farm, and
later moved to Oelwein which has
since been their home. She was the
mother of six children, five having
preceded her while still very small
children. She was a faithful member
of the Catholic church and died
comforted by the last holy sacraments.
She leaves her husband and
one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Steffen,
a little grandson, a brother John
McGuire and sister, Mrs. C. W. Masters,
both of St. Louis.
The last services were, held at
Sacred Heart church, conducted by
Rev. E. J. Dougherty and interment
was in the cemetery at Westgate by
the side of her children. She was a
very patient sufferer for several months
and was reconciled and resigned to the
will of God. May her soul rest in peace.
