Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 18 at the East Clermont Lutheran Church for Helen T. Blockhus. Rev. Dennis H. Dickman and Rev. Kim Thacker officiated. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Homes, Inc., Waverly, Iowa, and Schutte Funeral Service, Clermont, Iowa were in charge of the arrangements. Interment was in the East Clermont Lutheran Church cemetery. Casket bearers were Rev. Harlan Blockhus, Kenneth Blockhus, Duane A. Hanson, LaVerne Larson, Oliver Larson, and Quinton Olson.

Helen T. Blockhus, daughter of Ole and Carrie (Gilbertson) Thorson, was born November 17, 1895 on a farm near Elgin, Iowa. She died Tuesday, March 15, 1988 at the Waverly Muncipal Hospital, Waverly, Iowa. She was baptized at home shortly after birth and on October 23, 1910 she was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, Iowa. She attended rural schools.

On October 16, 1920 she married Ole M. Blockhus at the home of her parents. The couple had 2 daughters. They farmed near Clermont, Iowa and Decorah, Iowa until 1944 when they moved to a farm near Elgin, Iowa. When they retired in 1956 they bought a home in Elgin. Ole died on May 28, 1961 and Helen continued living in her home until 1969 when she moved to Waverly, Iowa. She was a member of St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, a former member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church, and was a member of the American Legion Post #352 Auxiliary Elgin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, twin great-granddaughters, and 2 sisters, Anna in infancy and Amelia Larson.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Norma G. Hanson, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, and Verna, Mrs. Ernest W. Brandt, Waverly, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Rose L. Olson, Clermont, Iowa.
