Mattie Johnson, daughter of Hamilton and Sarah
Johnson, was born near Elgin, Illinois, June 2, 1859
and passed away at her home, 210 Second Avenue,
NE, Oelwein, Iowa at 4:30 Wednesday morning,
October 31, age 70 years and 5 months. While
still a young girl, she moved with her parents to
Fairbank, Iowa where they lived several years, then
moving to Oelwein where she lived until she was
married to Frank Zimmerman May 30, 1883. After
their marriage, they moved to a farm 3-4 miles from
Bryantsburg, where they made their home for seven
years, then they moved to Fairbank, staying one year,
after which they came to Oelwein and built the home
which they now live in.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Frank
Zimmerman; son Delbert and wife Susan and two grand
children, Janice and David; a host of relatives and
friends.

Funeral services were at the home at 2 pm, Friday and
at the Gospel Baptist Church. Rev. Austin of Calvary
Baptist Church at Cedar Rapids, officiated. Burial was in
Oakdale cemetery.
