KAUTEN, SAYLES, JOHNSON, CALL

Mrs. Mary Kauten, 85, lifelong
resident of Westgate, died Monday,
Feb. 7 at 5:45 p.m. at
Sumner Community Memorial
Hospital.
Funeral services will be held
today (Thursday, Feb. 10) at 2
p.m. at the Emerson-Milnes
Funeral Home, Sumner, with
Rev. Marion Donat, pastor of the
Murphy United Methodist
Church officiating. Burial was
in Greenwood Cemetery southeast
of Sumner.
She was born Sept. 20, 1886 in
Fayette County, Iowa, the
daughter of David and Adella
Sayles Johnson.
On September 27, 1904 she
was united in marriage with
Peter C. Kauten at Fairbank.
Her husband preceded her in
death in 1963.
She was a longtime member
of the Murphy United Methodist
Church, did practical nursing,
attending many mothers of newborn
babies, was a member of
the Willing Workers Ladies' Aid
and a member of the Oelwein
Daily Register's Three-Quarters
Century Club.
Survivors include two sons,
David of Westgate and Philip of
Waterloo; four brother, George
Johnson of Waterloo, Lyle Johnson
of Cody, Wyo., Paul Johnson
and Herbert Johnson of Sumner;
one sister, Mrs. Zola Call
of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren;
and eleven great grand children.
Besides her husband and parents,
she was preceded in death
by a daughter, Anna, one son,
Peter D.; a brother, Oney; a
sister, Haltie and an infant
grandson.
