METTLIN, REID, HAZLET, SPRAGUE

Word was received here of the
death of A. J. Mettlin of Russel,
Iowa, on Sunday afternoon, Oct.
18. He was 80 years of age.
Mr. Mettlin was born on a farm
four miles southeast of this city
and for nearly 45 years Oelwein
was home to him. As a young
man he taught in the rural schools
of this vicinity and was for several
years principal of the city
schools. Later he engaged in the
drug business, as junior member
of the Jamison-Mettlin drug firm.
About 35 years ago the family
moved to Russel, where Mr. Mettlin
continued in a general drug
business, selling out and retiring
about two years ago because of
failing health. .
He is survived by two children,
Mrs. George Reid of Moravia,
Iowa, and George J. Mettlin of
Russell. Also surviving are six
grandchildren; two brothers P.
M; Mettlin of Reinbeck and
Charles Mettlin of Oelwein; two
sisters, Mrs. S. K. Hazlet and Mrs.
Sid Sprague of this city.
Attending funeral service at
Russel yesterday were Mrs.
Sprague, Mrs. Hazlet and Charlie
Mettlin of this city, and P. M.
Mettlin of Reinbeck.
