OELWEIN — Louis J. Maillie, 83, of Oelwein, died
Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at the Veterans Medical Center in
Iowa City, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30
a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the
Geilenfeld Funeral Chapel in
Oelwein, with the Rev. Leo Combs-
Lay officiating. Burial will be at
Woodlawn Cemetery, with military
graveside rites conducted by the-
Ross Reid Post 9 American Legion
of Oelwein.
Friends may call from 2 until 7
p.m. Friday at the Geilenfeld
Funeral Home, and after 9:30 a.m.
Saturday.
Louis J. Maillie was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Oelwein, the
son of Andrew and Minnie (Roepke) Maillie. He graduated
from Oelwein High School in 1940. Louie served with the
U.S. Marine Corps during World War n from 1942 to 1946.
On Oct. 2, 1968, he married Shirley Ann Beier in Oelwein.
Louie was a bricklayer by trade and well known in the area
for his masonry skills. He was a member of the Oelwein
American Legion Post 9.
Survivors include his wife. Shirley of Oelwein; his children,
Brad Maillie (special friend Steffeny) of Oelwein,
Sandy Ann Maillie of North Fork, Neb., Janie Bryant of
Hayward, Wis., Roy Maillie of Cedar Rapids and Barb
Gipper of Fairbank; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren;
and one brother, John (Eleanor) Maillie of
Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; a daughter,
Candy; a sister, Elizabeth; two brothers, Edward and
William; and his parents.
