Joseph's death occurred Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at his home in Sumner.

Joseph William Baumler, son of William and Shirley (Miller) Baumler, was born March 19, 1964, in West Union. He was baptized at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina.

He attended CFS and South Winneshiek schools in Calmar.

Joseph was wed to Natalie Hemesath on July 14, 1990, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. They were later divorced.

For the last two years, Joe had made Sumner his home.

He held several jobs over the years, but he especially enjoyed helping others with their farming operations.

Joe loved to hunt and spend time outdoors. He also loved spending time with family and friends. Joe liked to build things, too. If he saw something he liked, he would look at it carefully and then go to his workspace and start to build it, usually building it better than the original.

Spending time with his son Dustin and nephew Derek and collecting toy tractors were among Joe's favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons Evan and Tanner. Joe liked spending summer days with Dixie at Split Rock Park, as well.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Shirley; his maternal grandparents, George and Evelyn Miller; and his paternal grandfather, Raymond Baumler.

Joseph is survived by three sons, Dustin Baumler and Evan Baumler, both of Ossian, and Tanner Baumler of Waukon; his father, William Baumler of Ossian; a sister, Lisa (Douglas) Nelson of West Union; two brothers, Dean (Kristie) Baumler and Brian (Karla) Baumler, both of Ossian; and his paternal grandmother, Teresa Baumler of Fort Atkinson.

He is also survived by a special friend, Dixie Breitbach of Sumner, and her children Heather (Scott) Busta of Lawler, Amy (Dustin) Koch of Fredericksburg, Aaron (Christina) Pattison of Decorah, and Kayleen (Brant) Schrader of Clermont; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
