James William Richardson

James William Richardson, 87, of Spokane, Wash., and formerly of Alpha, died Aug. 19, 1999, in Spokane of natural causes. A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m., at the Alpha United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger White presiding. A memorial service also was held in Spokane.

Burial was at the Alpha Cemetery with honors by the American Legion.

James was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the South Pacific. He owned and operated his own business, Rite-way Heating Service, in Spokane for 25 years.

He was an avid sportsman. He took up skiing late in his life. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Central Park Racquet and Tennis Club in Spokane.

Jim was never without a pet to share his time with. His garden, flowers and yard always brought joy to the many visiting him. He was a talented, self-taught musician and played the harmonica until the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Palma of Spokane, Wash.; five sisters, Alice Cooney of Mililani, Hawaii, Faye Pierce of Alpha, Ruvie Mahler of Waterloo, Florence Wesselius of Kenosha, Wis., and Ferne Ferguson of Bloomington, IL.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Alpha United Methodist Church and the Alpha Cemetery, c/o Eva Ott, 25232 Johnson Mill Road, Waucoma, Iowa 52171.

Larkin-Martin-Hugebeck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
