Samuel Guyer 1816 - 1886

GUYER, ALBERTSON, DAVIS

Samuel Guyer was born in Indiana, August 20, 1816 and departed this life March 20, 1886 aged 76 years, 7 months and 18 days. He was married to Miss Eliza Albertson in 1832 who died July 6, 1864 since which time Mr. Guyer has made his home with his son and only child, Jesse Guyer. Uncle Sammy, as he has been familiarly called for more than a quarter of a century, was raised a Quaker and possessed many of the sterling qualities of the adherents of the sect. Though professing loyalty to no particular creed, he was a firm believer in practical Christianity and he ever endvored to observe the golden rule. He possessed not only upright principles but a sympathetic nature, and was ever ready to respond to the appeal of the unfortunate if in his power. He was among the early settlers of Fayette county and at one time his financial circumstances were good, owning a good farm near West Union, well stocked and free from encumbrances; but owing to the protracted illness of his wife, which lasted over 7 years, and other misfortunes, he became seriously straightened in his circumstances, but he invariably met his obligations and no man lost a dollar by his misfortune. He was respected and trusted most by those who knew him best. After over three quarters of a century he has passed away into the presence of the “Judge of all earth” who we are assured will do right. Peace to his ashes. Rest to his soul.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Monday afternoon, Rev. W. B. Davis officiating.
