Mrs. William Roepke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Wegner of
Wadeslav, Germany, was born December 7, 1852. As a tender infant
she received the sacrament of Holy Baptism. When 14 years of age,
she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. February 2, 1873, she
was united in marriage to William Roepke of near Bromberg, Germany.
This union was blessed with 10 children, 5 of whom -- 4 in Germany
and one in America -- have preceded their mother to the land of
eternity. The surviving grief-stricken children are: William Jr.
of Oelwein; August of Hazleton; Gustav of Aurora; Minnie now Mrs.
A. J. Mailie of Oelwein and Lewis of Oelwein.

In 1892 Mr. and Mrs. Roepke and children migrated to America,
settling on a farm near Jesup, Iowa. From here they removed to a
farm north of Oelwein, from whence, after a year, they in turn
moved to their homestead near Hazleton where they lived from 1899-
1919 when they made their home with their daughter Mrs. Andrew Mailie
of South Frederick Street.

About 14 weeks ago Mrs. Roepke was taken ill. She was removed to the
hospital for treatment. After her return, she seemed to rally, but
a relapse set in. Loving hands and prayerful hearts did all they
could to alleviate her suffering. Tuesday evening, August 9, at
7:45 her soul winged its way to the abode of peace and rest. She
was 68 years, 8 months and two days oldat the time of her departure.

She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid and of the
Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion, her son Lewis having served
overseas in France. There remains to mourn her loss, besides her
children and a host of friends and other relatives, her husband,
William Roepke, 19 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Herman Lenz of
Hawkeye and Mrs. Joe Wazlawski of Marshfield, Wisconsin; two brothers,
Julius and Emil Wegner of Oelwein and William Wegner of Sumner.

Last services were conducted from the A. J. Maillie home and from
the Lutheran Church Thursday afternoon, Rev. E. J. Braulick.
officiating. Interment was made at the Hazleton Cemetery.
