Funeral services for Darin Solheim were held Tuesday, February 3, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Bethany Lutheran Church, rural West Union, Iowa. The Reverend Richard Vettrus officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Darin Dean Solheim, the son of Philip Dean and Sheila Ann (Barker) Solheim, was born July 1, 1974 in Palmer Lutheran Hospital at West Union, IA. He was baptized while he was a patient in St. Francis Hospital at LaCrosse, Wisconsin, in the presence of his parents and his godmother, Roberta Kuhens.

Darin died on Friday, January 30, 1998 at his home in Clermont, IA. He had reached the age of 23 years, six months and 29 days.

He is survived by his parents, Philip and Sheila; a sister, Tangie Ann (Mark) Schultz of Monona; a niece, Mackenzee Ann Schultz; his paternal grandparents, George and Louelle Solheim of Castalia, IA; his godmother Roberta Kuhens of Apache Junction, AZ; other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Violet Barker; a cousin, Nick Solheim.

Darin attended the Antes Center in West Union, IA from age three until he was 21. He was a special gift from the day he was born until the day he passed away. He never said a word, yet he spoke to so many people. He always showed his love with his special little smile. Mom was his nurse and could understand all his special needs.

When Darin was younger, he loved to sit for hours on Grandpa and Grandma's lap and let them cuddle him. He also loved the special moments playing together with his sister each and every day while they were growing up. Darin usually accompanied the family wherever they would go. The memories of Darin will forever be in our hearts.

Casket bearers were David Solheim, Peter Tweed, Donald Solheim, Steve Dunt, Kermit Solheim, Todd Bovy, Duane Barker, Roger Thomas.
