Elmer Lantz 1907-1994

Elmer was born March 15, 1907, on the family farm near Elgin, IA, to William and Hannah (Schoien) Lantz. He was raised and educated in the area attending Clayton county Cook country school.

Elmer never married, he lived his entire life in the Elgin area. He worked in Elgin doing various kinds of jobs. He worked for Muehlethaler Furniture Store for a number of years, O'Neill Drug Store, he was custodian at the local school as well as bus driver. In his years of retirement he remained active helping with the mealsite, driving senior citizens to appointments and generally being a good community volunteer.

Elmer was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and will be remembered as one who really enjoyed sports, especially baseball. On January 27, 1994, he was found in his Elgin residence dead of an apparent heart attack. He was 86.

He is survived by a sister, Winifred Butikofer, Fayette, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Chapman, three brothers, Leslie, Raymond and Wilmer, and his parents.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 29, 1994, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin. Officiating was Pastor Judy A. Deweber.

Casket bearers were LaVerne Lantz, Robert Chapman, Gene Lantz, Lyle Butikofer, Layne Frieden, Jon Chapman, Scott Butikofer, Raymond Lantz, Jr.

Interment was in Elgin Cemetery, Elgin. Arrangements were by Muehlethaler Funeral Home, Elgin.
