Funeral services for Eugene A. Henn, 85, of Hawkeye were held Saturday, Jan. 30, at United Methodist Church in Hawkeye, Iowa. The Rev. Jason Princer and the Rev. Donna Meinhard were the officiating clergy.

Interment was in the Hawkeye Cemetery. Casket bearers were Byron Henn, Wayne Wenthe, Brian Harper, David Kendall, Dennis Worden and Gary Peters.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene's death occurred suddenly at his rural Hawkeye home on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010.

Eugene Arthur "Gene" Henn, son of George F. and Mary (Stapel) Henn, was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Hawkeye. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye in 1939.

He received his education in the rural schools near Hawkeye and graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1942.

Gene was united in marriage with Lavon Jane Peters at United Methodist Church in Hampton.

He farmed in the Hawkeye area for 50 years in partnership with his brother, Dick.

Active in his church and community, Gene was a member of United Methodist Church in Hawkeye, where he participated in the men's group. He had also served on the Hawkeye Co-op Board of Directors, and had been a member of the Farm Bureau.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clarence, George, Don, and Richard Henn; and two sisters, Marguerite and Mabel.

In addition to his wife, Lavon, of Hawkeye, he is survived by a son, Rob (Jean Ann) Henn, and a daughter, Barb (Duane) Clausen, both of Hawkeye; four grandchildren; and a sister, Rosemarie Harper of West Union.
