Martin I Gunderson, son of Edwin and Annie (Anderson) Gunderson was born June 15, 1927 near Clermont, Iowa. He died Friday, January 27, 1995 in the Lutheran Home at Strawberry Point, Iowa. He was 67 years old.

He attended the Woodland School north of Clermont. Martin served in the U. S. Army. On August 3, 1951 he was married to Lillian Johnson at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. To this union, twin daughters were born. The couple farmed north of Clermont for several years. Later, Martin was employed at Clermont Implement. Martin was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the American Legion, Sheehan-Olson Post No. 375 of Clermont.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rosalie and grandson, Brent Sherman. Surviving are his wife, Lillian of Clermont; a daughter, Roselyn and her husband, Ken Sherman, of Blue Grass, Iowa; a granddaughter, Valerie Sherman, a brother Emmet (Ruth) Gunderson of Monona, a sister, Anna Kurth of St. Olaf; nieces, Anna Schroeder of Monona, Mary Schroeder of Luana, Sue White of Wadena and Mona Benson of Elgin, Iowa; nephews, Bob Gunderson and Dean Gunderson, both of Monona, Gary Kurth of Luana and Kurtis Kurth of Elkader.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 2, 1995 in Schutte's Clermont Chapel at Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Joseph Nesheim officiated. Interment was in Gods Acre Cemetery at Clermont. Military rites were performed by the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375 of Clermont.
