Clermont Man Kills Self, Found Saturday

ELDORADO: A 38-year-old Clermont man committed suicide Wednesday near the former farm of his grandparents, 2 miles south and 3 miles east of here.

The body of Curtis Eugene Kamaus was found Saturday in his car by his brothers, Dave and Don of West Union. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

He had told his wife, Sonja, and brothers on Wednesday that he was going to be gone for 2 days on a trip to Wisconsin. When he did not return, his brothers began looking for him.

He was found Saturday evening inside his car. It was parked outside, but a hose was leading from the exhaust pipe through a hole in the back window. The area around the hole was taped, keeping the engine fumes within the car.

Born Aug. 27, 1948 at Charles City, he had lived in Clermont and West Union almost all his life. He was a 1966 graduate of North Fayette High School, West Union.

He was a machine operator for Fayette County. He was a member of the Clermont Public Library Board.

He was an avid runner and bicyclist and enjoyed reading and sports. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.

He was married Sept 5, 1970 to Sonja Lynn Paulson at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, where he was a member. The couple had 2 children: Paula, 16, and ........................

The end of the obituary is gone from my mother's obituary scrapbook collection. Why, I don't know. I don't know if it would have been in the Postville Herald newspaper or another paper she had a copy of. If anyone can complete this obituary, please contact the administer of this web site.
