Death of an Old Sumner Resident (pencil dated 1909)

Sumner, July 12 - Mrs. Margaretha Messerer of Banks was released by death from her long suffering with cancer on July 1, 1909. Had she lived two weeks longer she would have been eighty years old and she had spent fifty years in this vicinity. Her husband, Peter Messerer, died about 24 years ago, but she leaves children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to cherish the memory of a kind and faithful Christian woman. Rev. Sassman of Waverly preached her funeral sermon and she was laid to rest in the little country churchyard in view of the old homestead where had passed so many happy, useful years.
