Rose Caroline Olson

Funeral services were held for Rose C. Olson on Wednesday, September 16, 1998, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. Paul Birkedal officiated. The organist was Carol Katsumes, with special music by David and Julianne Meyer and Arthur Amundson. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery near Clermont.

Rose Caroline Olson, the daughter of Ethan Grant and Emma Josephine (Nelson) Guyer, was born February 28, 1910 in Dover Township, Fayette County, west of Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Sunday morning, September 13, 1998, in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, Iowa. She had reached the age of 88 years, 6 months and 15 days.

She was baptized April 3, 1910 by the Rev. E. R. McClelland in the Rowland Appointment Church, and confirmed May 18, 1924 by the Rev. Gunsten in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. She attended the rural school near her home and also attended Clermont High School.

On January 6, 1934, Rose was married to Richard Orlando Olson in the Clermont Lutheran Church Parsonage by the Rev. Gustov Gunsten. To this union two children were born. They farmed in the Clermont area for many years, then moved to Clermont in 1981. Richard was employed at the John Deere Shop and Rose worked in Elgin at the Cappers Egghaven. Later she was employed at the Iowa Turkey Products Plant in Postville for 13 years.

Rose was known in Clermont as the "lefse maker", a Norwegian delicacy. She loved her family and spent a great deal of time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as with the numerous nieces and nephews. Rose became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in West Union on July 15, 1998.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, who died January 23, 1990, and seven brothers, Harvey, Aubrey, Victor, Jesse, Russell, Lawrence, and Lyle Guyer.

Surviving are her children, Ramona Caryl and her husband Richard Meyer of West Union, Iowa, Elliott Melvin Olson of Clermont and his special friend, Dorla Huffman of Wisconsin Dells, seven grandchildren, Bruce (Lori) Meyer of North Liberty, IA, David (Julianne) of Titonka, IA, Brian (Janell) of Ames, IA, Curtis (Joyce) Meyer of North Liberty, IA, Kevin (Colleen) Olson of North Liberty, IA, Brenda Olson and special friend, John Nauholz of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Candis (Lester) Wickenhauser of Chaska, MN; 13 great grandchildren, Heather, Kristen, Alexander, Keagan, Evan, Hannah, and Truman Meyer, Shawn, Ashley and MaKayla Olson, and Cameo, Brook and Mitchel Wickenhauser.

Rose was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of ELCA, Sarah Circle.

Casket bearers were Kevin Olson and Bruce, David, Brian and Curtis Meyer and Lester Wickenhauser.

Honorary casket bearers were Douglas, Sr., Ronald, Gerald, Russell and Gaylord Guyer.
