David Milton Werhan 1946-2009

A Funeral Mass for David M. Werhan, 62, of West Union, Iowa, was celebrated by the Rev. Dale Rausch on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union.

Burial was in the West Union Cemetery. Casket bearers were Elvin Anderson, Kenneth Meyer, Kris Austin, Ron Moen, Bryce Werhan, Paula Snell and Karla Snyder.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.

David died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, following a brief illness. He had been hospitalized in Waterloo and was recently transferred to Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, where his death occurred.

David Milton Werhan was born Dec. 19, 1946, in West Union to Alfred and Eleanor (Bergan) Werhan.

He attended Holy Name Catholic School, West Union, through the eighth grade.

He had worked with his father and for area farmers, as well as for Frey's Amusements. For five years he worked for Fayette County Recycling, retiring in October 2008 due to health problems.

David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.

Survivors include three brothers, Charles (Jesse) Werhan of Greentop, Mo., James (Sherryl) Werhan and Robert "Pat" Werhan, both of West Union; three sisters, Ruth Werhan of Waterloo, Mary Wilbur of Fayette, and Ann (Duane) Moen of Decorah; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
