Funeral Services Held for Carmy Nordhus

Funeral services were held for Carmy L. Nordhus, 81, of West Union, Saturday, Oct. 5 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union with burial in West Union Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carmy Lloyd Nordhus, son of Andrew and Lida (Peterson) Nordhus, was born March 16, 1910 in Dover Township, Fayette County. He was baptized in 1910 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church by the Rev. O. Anderson and confirmed Nov. 2, 1924 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Carmy attended rural school in Dover Township.

He married Ruth N. Smith Jan. 18, 1936 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. They have one son.

Carmy worked as a lineman for Northwest Bell Co. and 35 years with Interstate Power Co. as a service representative. He resided in Charles City, Cedar Falls and Mason City when he worked for the Northwest Bell Co. and Osage, Calmar and West Union when he worked for Interstate Power. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, I.O.O.F. for 40 years, served on the church council and was the electrician for the County Fair Board for 35 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Elmer, Leonard, Alfred and Samuel; and one sister, Minnie Mishler.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of West Union; his son, Dwaine of Postville; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Lowe of Oelwein; one sister-in-law, Vida Nordhus of West Union; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Steven Nordhus, Richard Nordhus, Harry Walton, Brent Nordhus, Brian Manning and Keith Lowe.
