Betty M. Chapman, 78, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Thursday morning, June 11, 2009 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens rural Oelwein.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Betty is survived by her children, Ron (Sandy) Chapman of Independence, Marlene (Rodney) Wedemeier of Sumner, Allen (Kathy) Chapman of Oelwein, and Harold (Julie) Chapman of Cresco; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Mae) Huggins of Branson, Mo.; two sisters, Velma (Larry) Garrigus of Oelwein and Sharon Kula of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law Regina Huggins of Oelwein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harley, April 26, 1986; granddaughter Jodie Wedemeier; three sisters, Dorothy Chapman, Maude Avis and Helen Avis; and three brothers, James Huggins in infancy, Tom Huggins and Richard Huggins.
Betty Mae Huggins was born May 2, 1931 at Aurora, Iowa the daughter of Art and Emma (Olmstead) Huggins. She was raised in rural Wadena. Betty married Harley Howard Chapman on June 25, 1949 at Aurora. Betty and Harley moved to Oelwein in 1962 where Betty worked at City Laundering Co. for 28 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed being outdoors. She has been a resident of Mercy Living Plus since 2007.
