O.N. Hopkins Dies
O.N. Hopkins, who lived in Elgin about eight years ago, died in West Union, Tuesday morning at the home of Will Ecker. Mr Hopkins was a veteran of the Civil War and at the time of his death was seventy eight years of age. He was a widower with no living children and so far as we know has no living relatives.
O.N. Hopkins was born at Washington, Wisconsin, in 1845. He enlisted on January 17, 1862, in Co. L Seventh Iowa Cavalry and recieved his honorable discharge on January 20, 1865.
The body of Mr. Hopkins was brought to Elgin Teusday. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church today(Thursday) and the body was laid to rest in the Elgin Cemetery.
