Hawkeye Man Killed
John Russler Kicked by a Horse Friday, Dies Saturday
Hawkeye, Oct - John Russler, was kicked by a horse Friday morning and in spite of a surgical operation died from the effects of the accident Saturday morning. Mr Russler, who was one of our most prosperous farmers living about two miles north of town, was found unconscious in the yard Friday morning. His wife found him about 7 o'clock, shortly after he had left the house. She summonded the neighbors and a doctor, and all was done for him that medical skill could do. A consultation of doctors was held about noon and at 2 o'clock Dr Walsh and Fox operated. Mr Russler regained consciousness that afternoon, making his will and explaining how the accident occurred. As he was catching a chicken for dinner it ran under the horse's feet in the barn, and as Mr Russler stooped to get it the horse became frightened and kicked him in the abdomen. He walked from the barn, closing the door after him, and fell unconscious before he could get to the house. Dr Walsh remained there, but about 3 o'clock Saturday morning Mr Russler passed away. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Miss Tillie. The funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct 18, from the Lutheran church at Hawkeye, of which he was a member. Interment in the Hawkeye cemetery.
