Leona L. Bachman, 83, of Randalia, Iowa, died on Sunday morning, Feb. 27, 2000, at her home after a long illness.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the United Methodist Church at Randalia, Iowa, with Rev. Roger White officiating.

Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, and for one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Burial: Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, Iowa; Memorial Fund: United Methodist Church, Randalia.

Leona is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and Doug Chapman of Stuart, Virginia, and Joan and Ted Carter of Cedar Rapids; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Alice Bachman of Clarence, Iowa, and Kevin and Julie Bachman of Lincoln, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Lower of Arlington and Larry Lower of Ankeny; and two sisters, Anna Palmer of Oelwein and Edna Menke of Fort Dodge.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest, on March 31, 1985; two sisters, Helen Lower and Mildred Youngblut; and a great-granddaughter, Julia Ann Chapman.
Leona Louise Lower was born on September 3, 1916, in Arlington, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Leo and Katherine Louise (Cornilsen) Lower.

She graduated from Arlington High School in 1934. Leona married Ernest F. Bachman on April 8, 1937, at Galena, Illinois. They farmed near Rowley and Maynard until 1974. They then owned and operated Bachman Produce in Randalia until 1985.

Leona was a member of the Randalia United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, the Thursday Reading Circle, the Birthday Club, and the Maynard Senior Citizens. She was most noted for her beautiful flowers in and around her home.
