Gwen E. Pagel, 70, of 101 N.E. 46th Place died of complications of cancer Tuesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Aurora.

Born in Lamont, she had lived in Oelwein before moving to Des Moines in 1963. She had been an art teacher and a member of American Quarter Horse Association and the Des Moines, Iowa and National education associations.

Survivors include three sisters, Dora Lee Nus of Arlington; Iva Bachtell of Waterloo and Flossie Streicher of Strawberry Point.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Union Church in Aurora or the American Cancer Society. (from the Des Moines Register (Iowa), Obituaries, 1990-1999, 27 August 1993, page 7.)
