MRS. IDA PETTIS
Ida Kohler Pettis was born in
Dessau, Germany, Sept. 28, 1867,
the daughter of Kaleb and Alvina
Ginter Kohler. She died at her
home in Oelwein, Saturday, Feb.
23, at the age of 89 years and
five months.
Mrs. Pettis came to America
when she was a girl of 18 years.
She married Fred Fink, who died
Feb. 18, 1897, and Oscar Risley,
who died March 10, 1932. In 1943
she was united, in marriage to Milton
Pettis, and they made their
home together in Oelwein since
that time.
She had been in failing health
for the past few months, and was
bedfast the past four weeks.
She is survived by her husband,
Milton, and by her sons, Ferdinand
Fink, Oelwein; George Fink,
Compton, Calif.; a daughter. Tillie
Fink Birch, Oakland, Calif., and
sons, John Risley, Oelwein, and Oscar
Risley, Dubuque. Also eight
grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by a daughter, Jennie,
and one infant son.
Services were held at the Brant
funeral chapel, Feb. 23, 1957 at 2
p. m., Dr. M. B. Green, of Grace
Methodist church officiating. Russell
Brant was soloist, with Mrs.
Sam Smith at the organ. Burial
was made at Woodlawn cemetery.
Casket bearers were: Donald
Retz, Louis Gremmels, Leslie
Lantz, Henry Brinkman, Guy
Spragg and Newell Davis.
