Mary Kohrt was born in Plath,
Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, on
January 15, 1853. She attended the
public schools in that city and also
received her religions instruction
there, being confirmed at the age of
fourteen in the Lutheran church. In
1879 she was united in marriage to
John Hamann in Plath. His death, occurred
a year later. In 1881 she was
married to Christ Zierjack and they
came to America in 1882. For some
years they were located in Bremer
county, Iowa, later they located on a
farm in Oran township. For the past
six years the family has resided in
Oelwein. Though she had been ill for
some time it was not thought that her
ailment was serious. After passing a
week on the farm she returned to
Oelwein Wednesday and was taken
seriously ill. Medical aid proved
unavailing and she passed away the
following day. She was a good kind
mother and was loved by her children.
Beside her husband she leaves to
mourn, two sons, Albert and William,
and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Damon,
of Waterloo. Her age was sixty-one
years, four months and twenty-six
days. The funeral services were held
Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted
by Rev. F. Zimmerman, and interment
followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
