Florence Alpharetta Woods
Vargason, youngest child of the
late Lewis C. and Angeline
Woods, was born at Otsego, near
Hqzleton, Iowa, on Oct. 29th, 1874
and passed away at the home of
her cousin, Mrs. G. A. Hanson, at
Oelwein, at 10 o'clock on Monday
morning, March 25th, 1940 at
the age of 65 years, four months
and 26 days.
It was while she was making
plans to attend the funeral of a
cousin, Neri Woods, at Faribault,
Minn., that she was suddenly
stricken with the dread heart attack
that snuffed out her life in
less than an hour. Medical aid
was summoned and all that loving
hands could do was done to
relieve her intense suffering, but
nothing could stay the hand of
death.
On October 6th, 1896 she was
united in marriage to Fred P.
Vargason. Three children, two
daughters and one son were born
to this union.
She was a member of the
Hazleton Presbyterian .church.
She, was also a member of the
Pythian Sisters until the order
was consolidated' with the Oelwein
lodge.
Although she did no great
deeds and did not win fame and
popularity, hers was a beautiful
life, filled with good deeds and
lived in such a way as to be a
loving example for her children
and grandchildren to follow. She
patiently and lovingly cared for
both her husband's mother and
her own mother during their declining
years and last illnessss,
thus showing her willingness to
sacrifice for others. Her parents
and one sister, Sadie, preceded
her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing
her husband; her three children,
Mrs. Inez Rafferty of Paw
Paw, Ill.; Timmie and Kathleen
at home; one sister, Mrs. Lucy
Dickenson of Stanley, Iowa;
grandchildren and many friends.
