Mrs. Ernestine Juliana Weise, daughter of Gotfried Weise and Juliann Weise, nee Houser, was born in Weigsdorf, in Saxony Germany August 22, 1856 and passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Wegner, 3rd Avenue, SE Oelwein, Iowa, Thursday, Decemeber 9, 1937 at 12:30 am, 81 years, three months and 16 days.

In her early infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran church of her home village and grew up there attending school and confirmation school and was confirmed during her 14th year. In the same church in which she was baptized and confirmed also her marriage ceremony was performed where she was joined in wedlock with Gustave Heinrich Neumann.

In May 1880, about three years later during the year 1883 they left the land of their birth and came to America. They first came to Oelwein, then moved to Independence where the husband was employed in a meat market, but soon returned to Oelwein to engage in the same business and later lived on a farm just west of the city park. Her husband preceded her in death on January 9, 1912. Until 1920 she made her home on the farm then moved into the city and lived on 3rd Avenue SE.

She is survived and mourned by her daughter, Mrs. Lena Wegner. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Emma Oelwein of Pocatello, Idaho, two nieces and two nephews besides a host of other relatives and dear friends. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Last rites for Mrs. Ernestine Juliana Neumann were held on Saturday afternoon from the Emil Wegner home on 3rd Avenue, SE at 12:30 pm and the Lutheran church at 1 o'clock pm, conducted by Rev. H. C. Schiffle of Arlington, Iowa. Burial was made in Otsego cemetery.
