Emma Delphene Wharram, daughter of Major and
Cynthia Scaden Wharram was born May 20, 1848
near Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and died
March 28, 1936 in Stanley, Iowa.
In early childhood she was brought by her
parents to Ohio, living near Sandusky for
several years.
On September 28, 1870 she was united in marriage
with Frank D. Stimson and lived in Ohio unti
1882, when they came west to Iowa, locating in
Buchanan county, where they became the heart of
the thrifty county life of that day and remained
to exert her influence upon a large sphere of
life. She has been a member of the Union church
and Ladies Aid since first coming to Stanley in
1893.
Mrs. Stimson was the last of a family of six
children to answer the roll call, her going ends
a generation of a pioneer family.
She was the mother of six sons, three having
preceded her in death. She leaves to honor her
memory, three sons, Edward M. and Arthur N. of
Saskatchewan, Canada and Nelson P. of Stanley,
Iowa, together with fifteen grandchildren,
twelve great grandchildren and many other
relatives and friends who will long remember her
quiet life and sterling qualities. Mrs. Stimson
was left widow when her companion of 53 years
died March 1924.
Her declining years were spent in the home of
her son, Nelson and family, who tenderly gave
Grandma all the care that human hands could
bestow.
Our mother, grandmother and great grandmother
has closed a useful life at the age of 87 years,
10 months and 8 days.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Sherrill and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Stimson and son of Waterloo; Mr. and
Mrs. Vernal Stimson and Francis Stimson of
Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gooding and
son of Marshalltown, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Wolfe Rolander of Princeton, Illinois; Mrs. Jim Trinder and
