Barbara Ann Fraas, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs John Fraas was
born in Germany, October 8, 1872,
the second of a family of nine
children. She was baptized infancy
and confirmed at the age of 12 years
in the Lutheran church in Germany.
She came to America at the
age of 13 yeais and spent her
childhood and youth in and
around Oelwein.
On April 23rd, 1908 she was
united in marriage with George
Leigh and they moved to a farm
southeast of Oelwein where they
lived until the time of her death
On February 18, she was taken
to Mercy hospital for treatment
of a hemorrhage of the lungs as
as a result of the "flu". She seemed
on the road to recovery and asked
to be taken to the home of her
niece, Mrs. Wm. Beckner,
upon arriving there she took a
sudden change for the worse, and
died as the result of a blood clot.
She passed away Monday
evening March 1, at 7 o'clock at
the age of 70 years, 3 months and
20 days.
She leaves to mourn her death
her husband, two sisters, Mrs.
Katherine Shippy, Calome, South
Dakota and Mrs Emma Russell,
Waterloo, Iowa and several neices
and nephews.
The funeral was conducted
from the Hintz Funeral Home and
from the Zion Lutheran church,
Thursday afternoon, March 4, Rev.
H. C. Schiffler officiating Mrs.
Karl Behrens and Mrs. Alvin
Kiel sang "In the Garden" and
"The Old Rugged Cross".
Interment was in Otsego cemetery.
