Jack D. Adrian, 76, Elgin

Services for Jack D. Adrian, 76, Elgin, were Friday, Sept. 8 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Arley Ellingson officiating. Burial was in Elgin Cemetery with military rites. His niece and nephews served as color guards.

Jack died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in his home.

Jack D. Adrian was born March 16, 1924, to Mike and Ruth (Conner) Adiran. He grew up in the Elgin area and graduated as a valedictorian from Elgin High School in 1942. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater of World War II on the USS John Rodgers from 1942 to 1945.

While in the service, Adiran received medals for good conduct, the Atlantic Ocean American Campaign, the Pacific Ocean Campaign and a general World War II medal.

He married Iva "Bobbie" Wagner May 24, 1952. They had two children. Jack worked as a lineman for Interstate Power Company for 40 years, retiring in February 1986. His hobbies included playing and watching sports and spending time with his family. He also traveled to Corpus Christi, Texas, to tour the USS Lexington.

Survivors include his wife Iva (Bobbie), Elgin; son Edwin (Deb), West Union; daughter Jacqulyne Adrian-Roe, Dubuque; five grandchildren; sisters Letha (Paul) Ryan, Des Moines, and Marie Schlee, Postville; brother Paul (Bonnie); and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Lester Martin, Oran Tande, Bill Schlee, Clair Wagner and Vern Wagner.

Leonard Funeral Home, Elgin, was in charge of arrangements.
