Last rites for Mrs. Kate Egan were held Wednesday, December 1, 1948 in the Immaculate Conception church in Fairbank at 9:30. Burial was in the Immaculate Conception cemetery with Father Bernard Collins officiating.

Katherine Brown was born November 11, 1869 in Jackson county. She was married to William J. Egan January 29, 1891 at Fairbank in the Immaculate Conception church by the late Father Tobin. She spent practically her entire life in Fayette county where she and her husband started out some 58 years ago. The Egans celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1940.

Eleven children were born to this union. Her husband and two daughters preceded her in death.

Survivors include nine children; Alice and Dick at home; Margaret, Waterloo; Sister Mary Gabriel, Visitation convent, Dubuque; Bernard, Colorado; Helen, Portland, Oregon; Leo and Pat, Westgate; Agnes Aubrey of Oelwein; 11 grandchildren and two great grandsons; two brothers, Dave Brown, Canada and Jerry Brown, Portland, Oregon; three sisters, Mary E. Brown and Margaret Brown, Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Bridget Shields of Fairbank.

Six nephews served as pallbearers; Edward Reising, Barney Shields, Richard Shields and Florence, Richard and Nick Brown.
