William Henry Sidler, son of Henry and Nancy Sidler, was born in Illinois, August 23, 1849 and died at his home in Fayette County, Iowa, February 28. 1925 at the age of 76 years, 6 months and five days, after an illness from pneumonia and heart trouble. In 1855 he first settled northwest of Oelwein and was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Hotchkiss, April 17, 1878, also of Fayette County. He was the father of five children; Elias Sidler of Westgate, Iowa, Mrs. Maude Haun of Grove Hill, Iowa, Mrs. Lottie Loeb of Oelwein, Iowa, Mrs. Blanche Johnson of Oelwein, Iowa, and Mrs. Etta Shomer of St. Cloud, Minnesota, who passed away July 6, 1924. Besides his four children there remains a niece Minnie McCue, whom he has fathered for years. One brother Elias Sidler, who died in Oregon. He also had 4 half brothers and 4 half sisters, the ones living are: N. A. Gerken, Agnes Faust. The ones who have passed away are Ellen Hall, John W. Gerken, Eliva Hunter, Benjamin F. Gerken, Melissa Gerken and Arnold Gerken. Besides there are 26 grandchildren and one great grandchild and numerous other relatives and friends, who remain to miss a faithful husband and loving father and liked by all who knew him.
