Marilyn J. Mehlert, 68, of Oelwein, died Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2007 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church. The Geilenfeld Funeral Home of Oelwein is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn was born March 26, 1939, in Elkader, the daughter of Albert and Mine (Adams) Holden. She attended Elkader High School. On Sept. 20, 1969, she married Richard Mehlert in Oelwein. Marilyn was a homemaker and mother.

She enjoyed going out to supper, going for rides and visiting family and friends. She was an especially big fan of The Three Stooges and loved watching westerns.

Survivors include her husband, Richard of Oelwein; two sisters, Shelby (Bud) Slaughter of McGregor and Ruth Ann Holden of Independence; a brother John (Eleanor) Holden of Waterloo; a nephew, Luke Holden; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, John and Garner Mehlert, Donald Mehlert and Marilyn and David Sades.

She was preceded in death by her son James Mehlert, Sept. 15, 2007; five sisters; three brothers and her parents.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.
