Jay A. Shippy was born in Oran township, Fayette county, October 16, 1898 at Oelwein, Fayette County, April 22, 1911, aged 12 years, 6 months and 6 days. He was youngest son of L. D. and Elsie E. Shippy. His mother preceded him ten years ago. Two years ago his sister Glennae Bell aged 16 years died. He leaves a father, one brother, Loyd E.. a half sister, Mrs. Alta Cannon, grandmother and grandfather and numerous other relatives. His death was caused by inflammatory rheumatism. During an illness of fifteen weeks, he was a patient sufferer and much endeared himself to those who watched over him. He was of a bright sunny disposition and was a general favorite with all his friends and relatives.
