Annis Henry was born in London, Ontario, Canada, April 28, 1837 and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. B. McQueen in Oelwein, Iowa, May 18, 1915. In 1853 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Shippy and they came west to locate in Burlington, Wisconsin. In 1855 they located in Oran township, Fayette County. Mr. and Mrs. Shippy were the parents of eight children, two daughters Alvaretta and Mrs. Samuel Spear and a son, Osceula having preceded her in death. Her husband died in 1899.
The following children remain to mourn the loss of a good mother; Mrs. W. B. McQueeen, Lora D. Shippy, Ira B. Shippy and C. D. Shippy of Oelwein and Charles S. Shippy of Hope, North Dakota. Mrs. Shippy leaves two brothers, Nathaniel H. of Peck, Michigan and Ira H. of Watertown, Wisconsin.
She was a pioneer woman of the county having resided in this vicinity for sixty years. Since the death of her husband she has resided with her children. Thirty years ago she became a communicant of the Church of the Latter Day Saints and was a faithful member of that denomination. She was a good mother and was held in love and affection by her children and others who knew her. Her health had been failing for some months and recently a stroke of paralysis at her advanced age brought about the end. The last services will be held Thursday, May 20 , from the home of her daughter at 1:30 p. m. and from the M. E. church at 2.
