Funeral services were held Friday, August 31, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville with the Reverend Gary Catterson officiating. The organist was Beverly Bacon. The Casket Bearers were Eric Block, Lee Block, Scot Block, Tim Vagts, Fred Vagts, Matt Collins, and the Honorary Casket Bearers were Amy Seitz and Melanie Frees. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Frances Josephine (Erhardt) Dreier was born February 21, 1914, to David and Ida (Burrow) Erhardt, in Fayette County near Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa, at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 6 days.
She attended the Postville Junction Country School near her home. She was baptized on December 9, 1933 at the First Baptist Church in Elgin, Iowa. On August 9, 1934 Frances was married to Herbert George Arnold Dreier in the First Baptist Church Parsonage at Elgin, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Ida Block, Mary Ann Vagts, Pauline Collins, and Mark Steven Dreier.
Frances worked along with her husband on their farm for many years. She loved to sew and made most of the girl's clothing. She also did decorative embroidery. She was known as a good cook and enjoyed trying out a new recipe now and then. Frances loved to paint and spent many hours painting beautiful landscapes. Travel was another of her great loves. She traveled all over the United States and Canada. Frances was a member of the VFW and also became a Gold Star Mother in 1970.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herbert, who died in 1988, a son, Mark, who was killed in Vietnam in 1969, a granddaughter, Tammy Vagts, three grandchildren who died in infancy, a son-in-law, Jim Collins, three brothers, Raymond, Frankie, and a brother who died in infancy, and three sisters, Clara Kostman, Florence Ashbacher, and Marian Wickham.
Surviving are her three daughters, Mary Ann (Gerald) Vagts, West Union, IA, Ida (Marvin) Block, and Pauline Collins, all of Oxford, IA; eight grandchildren, Eric (Kelly) Block, Lee (Linda) Block, Scot (Charlotte) Block, Tim (Penny) Vagts, Fred (Tami) Vagts, Amy (Dave) Seitz, Matt (Melissa) Collins, Melanie (Jimmy) Frees; 20 great grandchildren, Amber (Mickey) Scheetz, Desiree' (Jeremy) Smith, Clinton Block, Leann Block, Leishia Block, Joe Fulton, Nathan Alberhasky, Whitney Alberhasky, Dexter (Ashley) Quandahl, Jonathon Vagts, Alexander Vagts, Taylor Vagts, Cobie Vagts, Casey Vagts, and Josephine Seitz, Megan Collins, Nicholas Collins, Mason Collins, Ashley Frees, and Heather Frees. Frances was also blessed to have three great great grandchildren, Samantha Scheetz, Ella Fulton, and Shelbi Nevers.
Also surviving is a sister, Anna Mae Newton, Dubuque, IA and a sister-in-law, Sadie Erhardt, Postville, IA, and many other close friends and family.
