A Memorial Service for Franklin Olson was held Monday, November 4, 2002, at 11:00 A. M. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Helen Beth Kuhens officiated. Special music was provided by June Swenson, soloist and Kristin Fitzgerald, organist. Honorary Casket Bearers were: Neil and Cynthia Olson, Adam and Heidi Hirschy, Scott Olson, Katie Olson. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Internment will be in God's Acres Cemetery at a later date.

C. Franklin Olson, son of Louis Thomas Olson and Ruth Rebecca (nee Shipton) Olson, was born August 30, 1924, in West Union, Iowa. He died on Thursday, October 31, 2002, in Allen Memorial Hospital at Waterloo, Iowa.

He graduated from Clermont High School in 1941. Franklin also graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo following his military service.

He served in the U. S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. His strong sense of patriotism serves as an example for his children and grandchildren.

On November 3, 1946 Frank was married to Bertha Jane Olson in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. They have three sons, Craig, Rodney, and Scott. Franklin worked in the dairy industry for over 35 years. He was the General Manager of the Carnation Company in Waterloo and the assistant to the president of the Anderson-Erickson Dairy in Des Moines, Iowa. Following his retirement in 1986, Frank and Bertha moved to Clermont.

Frank has always been devoted to his loving wife, Bertha. They would have celebrated 56 years of marriage on November 3. He was a dedicated family man, and he especially enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with Bertha, fishing with his sons in Canada, and vacationing with the entire family in Wisconsin and Branson. He enjoyed most outdoor activities, especially golf and fishing.

Frank was always involved in the community, particularly after retirement. He served on the Clermont City Council, was active in the Community Club, the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375, and the West Clermont Lutheran Church. He had served as the project director for the renovation of the Larrabee School Building.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha, three sons, Craig Olson and wife, Ilean of Pella, IA, Rodney Olson and wife, Maureen of West Des Moines, IA, and Scott Olson of Des Moines, four grandchildren, Neil Olson and wife, Cynthia, Heidi and husband, Adam Hirschy, Scott Olson and Katie Olson, two sisters, Marjorie and husband, John Garlisch of Mission TX, and Lois and husband, Willet Miller of Clermont.
