FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN ARIZONA

Memorial services for Jerry N. Spencer, 85, who died recently in Arizona, will be held Saturday, May 16, 1981 at 2 p.m. at Wood Mortuary, West Union.

Jerry Nelson Spencer was born on a farm four miles east of West Union October 19, 1895, the son of Fredrick and Jesse Spencer. He grew up on the farm of his grandparents, the C. L. Chapmans. He entered the armed forces in 1918 and served overseas.

He was married to Ruth E. Granger, August 23, 1923 and they were the parents of two daughters. He worked for several years in the dairy department in Ames and later for the dairy extension service of Sugar Creek Creamery Co., Danville, Ill.

In 1936 he purchased a farm between Clermont and Postville and raised purebred Guernsey cattle. He was also with the Farm Administration in the four-county area. He also directed the GI farm classes in Postville. In 1960 he retired to Mesa, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two daughters, Peggy Joan Osher, Alamo, Calif.; and Katherine Ann Kinne, Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Bess Lick, Dixon, Mo., and a half-sister, Doris Zumwalt, Oklahoma City, Okla.
