GLEN NORRIS ODEGARD

Glen Norris Odegard, son of Charlie and Lydia Ida (Hofer) Odegard, was born May 28, 1929 near Elgin, Iowa. He died Friday, April 1, 1994 at his residence near Elgin. He was 64.

Glen lived in the Elgin area all his life. He was baptized on April 29, 1934 and confirmed on June 27, 1943 at Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder, Iowa. He served with the United States Army I Company 196th Infantry Regiment from March 7, 1951 until he was honorably discharged on Feb 10, 1953. During this time, he obtained the rank of corporal. Glen married Alta Elaine Seago on Dec. 19, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, two children were born.

He worked for Hygrade in Postville, and then for John Kittleson for over 10 years. Glen also did electrical and refrigerator work over the years, and could fix almost anything. He was semi-retired for the past few years.

Glen loved fishing with his wife, and enjoyed his children and grandchildren very much. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter. He was always ready to help anyone at any time. He was a member of Marion Lutheran Church, and served on its Cemetery Board.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his brothers, Floyd, Robert and LaVern; his sisters, Mildred, Gladys and Selma; a niece, Linda Caldwell; and two nephews, Lee Nutting and Kim Berger. Survivors include his wife Alta; three sons, Michael Cooley and his wife Judy of Lewisville, Texas; David Cooley and his wife Margo of Elgin, Iowa; and Robert Odegard at home; a daughter, Glenda Koehn and her husband Kelly of Elgin; eight grandchildren; and three sisters, Joanne Odegard of Elgin, Ione Nyberg and her husband Ervin of West Union, and Verna Nutting of Calmar.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, 1994 at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa, the Rev Albert Hock and John Kittleson officiating. Organist was Corrine Landsgard. Burial was in the Marion Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Marvin Berg, Bill Finnell, Dwayne Johnson, Dave Dennis, Myron Nutting and Rod Butikofer. Honorary casket bearers were Hubert Seago, Howard Berger, Bill Squires, Ron Rohrig, John Kittleson, Ervin Nyberg, Leslie Ruroden and Lauren Trudo. Arrangements were by the Muehlethaler Funeral Home, Elgin.
