Funeral services for John L. Schultz were held Friday, June 6 at 10:30 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Rev. David Johnson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona.

John Louie Schultz, son of Joe and Anna (Harnack) Schultz, was born August 27, 1888 in Clermont Township, Fayette County, Iowa. He died at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner June 3, 1986 at the age of 97.

He was baptized November 18, 1888 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and confirmed there on April 5, 1903. He attended the rural schools near his home.

July 17, 1913 he was married to Ella Mina Kuthe. They had 3 children. They farmed most of their lives, and for about 2 years, operated the hotel in Farmersburg. They moved to Clermont where he was employed by the Blacksmith, Burkard Riegel for several years. John had been a resident of the Hillcrest Home for the past 3 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ella, who died February, 1965, a daughter, Emily (Mrs. Sig Hope), 5 brothers, Henry, Louie, Eldo, and George and a sister, Edna (Mrs. Harry Lenth), 1 grandchild and 5 great grandchildren.

Surviving are a son, Wilbur and his wife, Ida Mae, of Elkader, a daughter, Verda Mae Nuehring of West Union, 2 brothers, Edwin of Lansing and Albert of Fayette, 19 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 11 great, great grandchildren.

Casket bearers were Roger Williams, Russell Belden, Harold Heins, Orville Nuehring, Omar Nuehring and James Baker.
