William Dreyer was born in Hanover, Germany, November 21, 1835 and came to this country about thirty years ago, coming first to LaCrosse, Wisconsin, thence to Minnesota, and thence to Fayette County, Iowa where he has resided for over a quarter of a century. April 16, 1874, he was united in marriage to Frederika Martens. Of this union were born two sons and two daughters and the two sons with their mother surviving to mourn the loss of a kind, loving father and husband. After an illness of many years he passed away at his home near Oelwein, Sunday afternoon, June 1, at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 10 days.
Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. James M. Wilson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, assisted by a mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. Mae Brown, Miss Hamlin, Arthur Miller and Prof. Moffett. Interment in the Oelwein cemetery.
